Most State Government agencies collect and use personal information provided by the public when accessing government services.
All government employees have an obligation to manage this information appropriately.

Personal Information Data Breaches
The Government’s Personal Information Data Breach Guideline advises South Australian Government agencies how to be prepared for, and respond to, occasions when there may have been a breach of privacy. It outlines the processes of identifying the breach and what notifications need to be issued.
The Privacy Committee of South Australia must be notified of breaches as soon as possible after a breach has occurred. For more information go to the Privacy Breach Notification webpage.
This information sheet provides advice to agencies on their obligations under the Information Privacy Principles when engaging a contracted service provider to provide services on behalf of Government.
The information sheet also introduces a set of model terms and conditions an agency can use when entering into a contract for service that will involve the handling of personal information.
This document was developed by the Crown Solicitor's Office to assist agencies to meet their obligations under the:
- Information Privacy Principles Instruction, and the
- Contracting and Official Records Standard issued under the State Records Act, 1997.
