State Records has developed the following Freedom of Information (FOI) letter and document templates to assist FOI officers in processing FOI applications pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 1991 (FOI Act). These templates are basic examples of the types of letters and documents FOI officers may need to draft when processing, consulting and determining FOI applications. Please note that these templates are guides only and, wherever necessary, should be amended, added to or re-written to suit the needs of the agency and the requirements of the FOI Act. These templates do not constitute legal advice.
Some of the templates contain advice to FOI officers in the footer of the document which will need to be removed prior to finalising the document.
