The State Records of South Australia accredited operational training courses that we offer meet an immediate need for participants. For example:
How to use a Records Disposal Schedule?
How to transfer records?
How to classify records?
However, records management is more complex than the application of tools and processes. Accordingly, State Records has developed the Across-Government Records Management Accredited Training and Education Strategy which sets out a new direction for South Australian Government public servants by addressing recordkeeping training and education issues and providing a framework for change.
This strategy outlines four goals and associated actions that need to be jointly pursued by both State Records and Agencies and Authorities. As a result, records management practitioners and their respective agencies can be confident that appropriately skilled and knowledgeable people are managing their operational and strategic recordkeeping programs.
Additionally, public servants that undertake the State Records accredited training and education programs will be aware of their responsibilities and better able to support their Agency, Chief Executive and Records Manager fulfil their organisations information management requirements.
State Records accredited operational training courses are also available to members of the public and records management practitioners from private enterprise.
The courses outlined below are aimed at records management practitioners.

Assessments
Most of the Operational Training Courses have an assessment component that allows State Records to determine the competency of learners.
The assessment of an Accredited Operational course may (subsequently) be used as a component in gaining Recognition of Prior Learning for a Nationally Accredited course.
The State Records website publishes up-to-date details of the status of all of its courses in the Training and Education Schedule - see link below. From these details, the following information can be acquired for each Operational Course Event:
the Start Date and Completion Date
the Location of the Course Event
the cost per seat
the current number of seats available
and whether the Course Event has actually been confirmed.
After confirming that the Operational course has vacancies, the following process steps have to be followed to enrol in these courses.
You cannot enrol in State Records Training and Education Courses until you are a registered State Records customer.
Note: This is a different process to that for customer who retrieve records from the State Records Repository.
I do not know if I am registered:
Click on Member Services in the banner at the top of any web page.
Click on Member Login in the left hand menu.
Enter the word Members in the Group: box and enter your usual email address in the Email Address: box.
You will now receive a message informing you whether State Records does or does not recognises you.
If you are a registered State Records customer, an email will be sent to the email address you have just entered. This email is important as it will contain your Login and Password for the Group 'Members'. After your email has arrived, proceed to Enrol in an Operational course.
If you are not registered, proceed to Register.
I have forgotten my registered Login and Password for the Group 'Members - follow the preceding process for 'I do not know if I am registered'.
I am definitely not a registered customer - proceed to Register.
I know I am registered as a State Records customer and I have my Login and Password for the Group 'Members' - proceed to Enrol in an Operational course.
At this stage, you have decided that you need to register as a State Records customer for Training and Education purposes.
Register
I will register as a State Records customer.
Click on Member Services in the banner at the top of any web page.
Click on Create Contact Registration in the left hand menu.
Enter your details in the mandatory fields (highlighted in red).

This will contain your Login, Password and Group 'Members' that will be used for any future Login to the State Records web site.
You will need these details, at a future date, to attempt to enrol in any State Records' Training Course.
Enrol in an Operational Course
At this stage, you believe that you are definitely registered as a State Records customer for Training and Education purposes. You have your Login and Password for the Group 'Members'.
Enrol
State Records is slowly phasing in enrolment for all State Records courses via our State Records website. However at this stage, for Operational courses, only the registration as a State Records customer is being performed on-line.
Once a customer has become registered, the next step, currently, is to download the Training and Registration Form below.
Then:
Fax or mail a Purchase Order, to cover the total cost of all the Operational Courses in which you wish to enrol, to the State Records Training Coordinator.
These costs will have been ascertained by consulting the Training and Education Schedule.
N.B. A separate Purchase Order is needed for a GST Free course as opposed to a GST required course.
Also Fax or mail a completed Training Registration Form for each course in which you wish to enrol.
Once all of these forms have been received by the State Records Training Coordinator, the customer will be enrolled by State Records. This will trigger an automatic email to the customer confirming the courses in which they are enrolled and the dates for which the courses are currently scheduled.
The receipt of this email does not guarantee that the course will actually be delivered unless it states that the course has been confirmed. All State Records classroom courses will only be confirmed when the advertised minimum number of enrolments for a particular courses has occurred.
Once the minimum number of enrolments has occurred, all potential students will be notified automatically by email.
State Records reserves the right to cancel a session, if the minimum number of people required for a course has not been reached, one week prior to the course being delivered.
If a Course Event has been confirmed as occurring, additional customers may register for this Course Event up to two business days prior to the delivery date - unless the maximum number of students allowed for a course will be exceeded.
Courses will be held in the lower ground floor Training Room at State Records City Research Centre, unless otherwise notified. Any change of location will be posted on this website in the Training and Education Schedule - see link below.
